Storylines from the Week

  • Rookies (Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine) continue to excel and lead their teams
  • Edmonton is really good right now and it's not just on offense
  • Pittsburgh desperately needs to get healthy; They can overcome an injury to Sidney Crosby with their depth at forward but an injury to Kris Letang, their number one defenseman, has proven to be a bit too much
  • Buffalo's season success has kind of gone off the rails with their injuries
  • Los Angeles could be in trouble with injuries to both starting goalie Jonathan Quick and backup Jeff Zatkoff.  Quick is expected to miss up three months with a groin injury and Zatkoff was placed on Injured Reserve, also with a groin injury.  The Kings will now rely on veteran goalie Peter Budaj and Jack Campbell.  Though the Kings are a highly talented team who was expected to make the playoffs this season, this is a significant setback for the team and it could mean them sitting at home when the playoffs start in April

Key Injuries

  • 10/22 - ANA D Simon Despres was placed on IR with a head injury
  • 10/21 - ARI G Mike Smith was placed on IR with a lower body injury
  • 10/19 - ARI F Jamie McGinn was placed on IR with an upper body inury
  • 10/22 - CHI D Trevor van Riemsdyk will miss around a month with an upper body injury
  • 10/21 - DAL F Patrick Shar was placed on IR with a concussion
