What I Said About Them Before the Season

  • I expected the Ravens to struggle significantly this past season, projecting them to go 3-13.  I based this on Joe Flacco's recent struggles at quarterback, their seeming lack of a true number one receiver, and their rushing attack looked to be in shambles.  The two stable units that I thought they would have was their offensive line and their defense.

Success/Failure

  • Success - For me, compared to how I projected their season to go, the 2016 Ravens team was absolutely a success.  Their defense guided the team to the success they found, ranking in the top ten in total and scoring defense.  They also tied for the league lead in interceptions, proof that their signing Eric Weddle has paid off.  On offense, they got good production from their running back duo of Terrance West and Kenneth Dixon and even had a 1,000 yard receiver in Mike Wallace, a surprising result.  The Ravens remained in playoff contention until the very end of the season and a roster that looked very old going into this season, now looks to have maybe turned the corner and the next wave of players seem to be stepping up.

Offseason Needs

  • Now that the Ravens have found some stability at running back and their offensive line is bolstered, the team should turn its attention to the defense and address needs on that side of the ball.  They need to bring in an edge pass rusher to a unit that ranked 24th in sacks last season. They also need help in the secondary since several members of that unit are older and they need to get younger and more athletic there.  Fox Sports has the Ravens taking cornerback Marshon Lattimore from LSU to address this need.  CBS Sports, on the other hand, has them taking running back Dalvin Cook with their first pick, a position they don't need to address, but if he is the best available player, then it's still a good pick.
