What I Said About Them Before the Season

  • I projected that the Dolphins would improve on their 2015-16 record of 6-10 by going 8-8 this season.  I questioned Miami's run game after letting Lamar Miller walk last offseason and seemingly replacing him with an aged Arian Foster.  I also wanted to see Ryan Tannehill step up and become the elite quarterback he should be in contrast to as much as he has struggled in recent years.  I was somewhat excited about about their offensive line and the impact the unit could have on the team's offense after drafting Laremy Tunsil at last year's draft.

Success/Failure

  • Success - Miami making the playoffs this season was quite a surprise compared to the season they had last year.  They proved that they didn't need Lamar Miller and turned to Jay Ajayi to be their lead back and he was stellar.  Tannehill had a decent year but still hasn't taken the next step in his development, throwing too many interceptions before missing time with an injury. Their defense was not good at all and struggled in every facet of the game and needs to be improved for next season.

Offseason Needs

  • The Dolphins need help on the defensive side of the ball, especially on the defensive line to help establish a better pass rush.  They also need a play maker at the linebacker position to help shore up the middle of the defense and take some strain off the secondary.  Lastly, they could use help on the offensive line with the potential of losing Branden Albert and Mario Williams to free agency.  Fox Sports has the Dolphins taking Vanderbilt linebacker Zach Cunningham with their first round pick.
