2016 Outlook

  • Last season, the Cardinals had a top-five offense and a top-ten defense, both of which led them to playing in the NFC Championship game.  Both their passing and rushing games were excellent last season, with rushing yards being divided among three running backs, and the Cards being one of four NFL teams with two 1,000 yard receivers.  Carson Palmer had his best season as a professional, throwing for over 4500 yards and Larry Fitzgerald revitalized his career with a 1200 yard season.  On defense, Arizona upgraded their already stout front seven by trading for Chandler Jones, and drafting Robert Nkemdiche.  In the secondary, the Cardinals already had all-pros Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu and drafted CB Brandon Williams in the 3rd Round.  Arizona was very good last year and has only gotten better over the offseason while the rest of the division has not necessarily done the same.  I see Arizona being the class of the NFC, going 14-2 and competing to represent the conference in the Super Bowl.

2016 Outlook

  • The Rams will enter 2016 in a new location, becoming the first team to call Los Angeles home since 1994.  The story of last year's team, which will most likely continue this year, is that the Rams have a highly skilled defense and a mediocre, at best, offense.  Their quarterback play was horrible last season, despite having an offensive line that only allowed 18 sacks all season, and the Rams attempted to remedy this by trading up in the draft to take Jared Goff with the first overall pick.  The team will have to hope that Goff works out as they gave up the 15th overall pick, two 2nd round, and a 3rd round pick in the 2016 draft and a 1st and 3rd round pick in the 2017 draft (all in exchange with the Titans).  The rest of the draft, the Rams used five of their six picks on offensive players, drafting wide receiver Pharoh Cooper who has lots of potential upside.  Despite these additions, I don't believe that the Rams' defense and Jared Goff will be enough to make them better, and I actually see them regressing to a record of 6-10 and breaking Jeff Fisher's streak of near .500 seasons.

2016 Outlook

  • The 49ers are bad...like really bad.  Their record of 5-11 last season could look like a mirage compared to the upcoming one.  Following last year, they fired their head coach and brought in Chip Kelly to lead the team.  However, it seems optimistic to think that a change of leadership will be enough to make them competitive.  Their offense is in shambles with it remaining to be seen if Colin Kaepernick can be a QB in the NFL, and their leading receiver (Anquan Boldin) is playing for Detroit this season.  On defense, there appears to at least some reason for optimism, with NaVorro Bowman coming off an all-pro season and 1st Round pick defensive end DeForest Buckner looking to have a breakout rookie season.  Their schedule is brutal, as well, with having to play both Arizona and Seattle twice, and playing New England and Carolina.  I could easily see them going winless this season (0-16).

2016 Outlook

  • The 2016 Seattle Seahawks will be the next edition of another quality Pete Carroll-led team. Last season, Russell Wilson took another step forward as an elite quarterback and is now the true leader of the team.  At running back, Thomas Rawls will handle the heaviest load from the start of the season, and looks to build on an impressive rookie campaign last season.  On offensive line, Russell Okung left for Denver, but the team drafted Germain Ifedi to hopefully fill the void.  On defense, the team will once again be one of the best in the league, led by the Legion of Boom in the secondary.  I see the Seahawks going 12-4 and making a run at the Super Bowl.
