2016 Outlook

  • The Falcons return much of the team that went 8-8 during the 2015 season.  The 2015 Falcons went through the season relatively healthy and RB Devonta Freeman had a big season, rushing for over a thousand yards in his sophomore season, while WR Julio Jones proved once again that he is one of the best wideouts in all of football.  QB Matt Ryan threw for over 4500 yards but his touchdown to interception ratio was not stellar and he simply threw too many interceptions.  During the offseason, the team brought in All-Pro center Alex Mack to help further their run game, giving Freeman and backup RB Tevin Coleman big holes to run through.  The team also brought in WR Mohamed Sanu from Cincinnati to give Matt Ryan another target opposite of Jones, that should excel their passing game.  They used their first round draft pick to draft a safety to help their secondary in a defense which gave up over 21 points/game.  If all breaks well, and Devonta Freeman proves he is the running back from last year, the Falcons could have a solid season;  I have them going 7-9, largely a product of their tough schedule, where they will travel to Denver and Seattle as well as host Green Bay.

2016 Outlook

  • The Carolina Panthers look to pick up in 2016 right where they left off in 2015, by nearly going undefeated and making it to the Super Bowl.  On the way to the Super Bowl, QB Cam Newton won MVP of the league and Offensive Player of the Year.  Newton looks to build off last season, where he threw for over 3800 yards, rushed for nearly a thousand yards, and scored 45 total TDs.  He'll have a full arsenal of weapons at his disposal, with Jonathan Stewart, Devin Funchess, and Greg Olsen all returning, plus WR Kelvin Benjamin coming back from injury. The Panthers' defense looks stellar like they did last season, despite losing All-Pro CB Josh Norman in the offseason.  Carolina is almost guaranteed to win the division again this season, and will be a favorite to make the Super Bowl; I have them going 15-1 again, with their only loss coming at Seattle.  There is the possibility of them going undefeated, however; there is also the possibility for some stumbling blocks throughout their schedule.

2016  Outlook

  • Success for the Saints in 2016 will largely be reliant upon whether Drew Brees can put off father time one more year and turn in another high output season.  The fact that he threw for over 4800 yards last season in only 15 games with relatively mediocre weapons is encouraging, considering they brought in the talented Coby Fleener at tight end, who is more of the Jimmy Graham style than Benjamin Watson style.  If Brandin Cooks and Mark Ingram can take another step forward in development, the Saints' offense will be one of the best in the NFC this season.  On defense, the line will have to pave the way for success, with Cameron Jordan coming off a 10 sack season on the end with first round pick Sheldon Rankins moving into a starting position as a defensive tackle.  I have the Saints having the same record this season at 7-9,with a majority of the wins coming towards the end of the season.

2016 Outlook

  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have improved significantly on defense this offseason by drafting Vernon Hargreaves III and signing Brent Grimes to anchor the cornerback positions.  They also signed veteran linebacker Daryl Smith and defensive end Robert Ayers to help the front seven. On offense, the Buccaneers really didn't need to go out and acquire much talent, they just need to continue to develop.  Jameis Winston will look to build on a solid rookie season  that ended with him winning rookie of the year, and the team around him is deep and talented.  Tampa Bay's struggle this season will be the increasingly tough division they play in (Atlanta has improved this offseason and Carolina may be the best team in football) and their harsh schedule (traveling to Arizona and Kansas City as well as hosting Seattle and Denver).  I have the Bucs going 5-11, but several of the games are coinflips and they will probably be closer to .500 on the season.
