Storylines from this Week

  • The New York Rangers are on a roll right now, going undefeated this past week
  • The Metro Division is a really competitive division, while the Central Division is really struggling to take off
  • Toronto is struggling to keep pucks out of the net still
  • Sidney Crosby is still the best player in the world, by far.  He is leading the league in goals, despite only playing in 6 of the team's 11 games
  • The Penguins made a really savvy under-the-radar trade that went largely unnoticed by claiming goalie Mike Condon off waivers from Montreal when the Canadiens tried sending him down to the AHL.  Condon was brought to the Penguins to be a back up goalie behind Marc-Andre Fleury until Matt Murray returned from the IR and didn't appear in a game.  After Murray came back, the Penguins then traded him to Ottawa for a 5th round draft pick.  It's a great way of giving up nothing and getting a potentially valuable asset back in return.
  • Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson has had to miss time this past week and will continue to miss time this season after he and his wife found out that she was diagnosed with cancer.  He has returned to the lineup after missing time and even had a shutout against the Edmonton Oilers in an emotionally-filled game.  This is heart-wrenching for the NHL community as it is during the hockey fights cancer month and players, coaches, front office members, and fans have all poured out support for Craig and his wife.  This is a time when the sport is trumped by real life in a great way.

Key Injuries

  • Winnipeg Jets - F Shawn Matthias was placed on IR with a lower-body injury
